Disney kids channels now exclusively on Disney+ in UK

Disney+ is now the exclusive home of the Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney XD in the UK, with all series and shows available only through the streaming service.

The channels are no longer available on British TV, through Sky, Virgin Media, Now TV or any other TV service.

Instead, all content and shows, such as Doc McStuffins, Elena of Avalor, and Descendents can be streamed on demand through Disney+.

"Disney+ is the new home of all Disney Channel shows and movies in the UK. We’re adding hundreds of episodes from popular, family friendly series, to enjoy on the go," said the streaming service's general manager, Luke Bradley-Jones.

It is widely thought that the closure of the channels was due to deals for new distribution agreements between Disney and Sky, Virgin TV, etc. not being struck.

That shouldn't affect other countries and markets, however: "The Walt Disney Company remains committed to our kids channels business and continues to execute distribution agreements for Disney channels in many markets where Disney+ is also available, with the goal of giving our fans multiple entry points to our storytelling," it said in June 2020.

Disney+ costs £5.99 per month in the UK.
