How to transfer your WhatsApp chat history to a new phone

Meta is updating WhatsApp with the ability to let you easily transfer your conversation history from Android to iPhone. Previously, it only allowed you to move chats from iPhone to Android. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the change in a Facebook post, addressing long-existing complaints about how difficult it can be to migrate phone data between the two mobile operating systems. Here is everything you need to know about how to transfer WhatsApp chats between your phones, no matter if you use Android or iPhone.

To begin, you need to use Apple's Move to iOS app. It helps Android users move their contacts, calendar, SMS, and now, WhatsApp chats, to iPhone.

  2. Begin to set up your new or factory-reset iPhone.
  3. Select the "Move data from Android" option.
  4. Follow the steps in the Move to iOS app on your Android app.
  5. Once your iPhone is fully set up, open up the WhatsApp app.
  6. Sign in using the same phone number.
