Google begins rolling out the Snapchat lockscreen shortcut to Pixel phones

Quick Tap to Snap, a Pixel feature that lets you open Snapchat from your lock screen by tapping twice on the rear of the phone, is finally here.

First announced in October, Quick Tap to Snap is part of Google's big launch event for the Google Pixel 6 line. The new smartphone series now enables the single quickest method for making snaps. Basically, Pixel 6 owners can add a shortcut to their phone, and then using taps on the back of the phone, they can open Snapchat's "Camera Only" mode to snap photos or video in a jiffy.

Once the Snap is ready to send, you can then unlock your phone to actually go about doing so, deferring that slightly time-consuming part until after your content is ready. This partnership runs slightly deeper, too, with Snapchat also getting to take advantage of a few of Google's fanciest Pixel features, like its impressive live translation, which could make it easier to communicate.

As part of this rollout, Google is also announcing Quick Tap to Snap will be available on the Pixel 4A 5G and newer devices - not just the Pixel 6.

Google also said there’s a new Pixel-exclusive Snapchat filter called "Pixel Face" on the way.  It is rolling out sometime "in the next few weeks".
