Sony Xperia launch 2020: How to watch it online and what to expect

Sony has announced its latest Xperia phone announcement will take place in mid-September.

We had Sony's Xperia 1 II debut earlier in the year and now it appears the slightly smaller version is imminent, called the Xperia 5 II. We're expecting a 6.1-inch phone versus the 6.5-inch display in the larger phone. Indeed, many of the phone's details have leaked and we'll take you through those below.

When is the Sony Xperia 2020 event?

The Sony Xperia event will take place online on 17 September. The keynote will start at 8am GMT. Here are the different local times:

  • London: 8am GMT
  • Paris/Berlin/Amsterdam/Madrid: 9am CET
  • New York: 3am EST
  • San Francisco: 12am PST
  • Tokyo: 5pm JST

How can I watch the Sony Xperia 2020 launch?

Sony has confirmed it will be hosting a livestream for the event and you'll be able to watch that via the Sony Xperia YouTube account and we will embed that video at the top of this story for you to watch.

What are we expecting from the Xperia 5 II?

The Sony Xperia 5 II is set to feature the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 5G chipset as the Xperia 1 II - notable because Sony hasn't decided to upgrade to the newer 865 Plus, not that it really matters to much in our opinion. The new phone will also feature 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, plus there will be a microSD card slot for expandability.

The display is set to to be a 6.1-inch display as mentioned, with a 120hz refresh rate as we're seeing in many flagship devices now.

The Xperia 5 II will also feature a 4,000mAh battery, fast charging, and triple wide/ultra-wide and telephoto camera lenses, all of which will be 12 megapixels.
