Best upcoming Nintendo Switch games to look forward to in 2020 and beyond

The Nintendo Switch has proven to be a very capable competitor to the PS4 and Xbox One, while offering something else besides - in the form of portability.

And, with the Nintendo Switch Lite also going great guns, there are a ton of fans looking for the best games to buy.

That's why we've gathered a list of the upcoming Switch games we've got our own beady eyes on. You can find them in chronological order – soonest first – and with trailers for each.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe

  • Release date: 30 October 2020
  • Switch exclusive: Yes
  • Publisher: Nintendo

A beautiful little game that many people missed because it only appeared on Nintendo's dud, the Wii U, Pikmin 3 is getting a re-release for the Nintendo Switch, something that fans have been asking for for ages now.

It looks like more charming fun, and should be a great way for new players to be introduced to one of Nintendo's cult franchises. Pikmin 4 is theoretically in development too, although we haven't had an update on that front in aeons.

Cyanide & Happiness Freakpocalypse: Part 1

  • Release date: 2020
  • Switch exclusive: No
  • Publisher: Serenity Forge

Cyanide and Happiness is one of our very favourite webcomics and it's not something you'd expect to see as a Switch game as it's often rude and features very edgy humour. With that in mind though, it might be the perfect purchase you're looking for something different to play.

New Pokémon Snap

  • Release date: 2020
  • Switch exclusive: Yes
  • Publisher: Nintendo

We've been waiting 20 years for a new Pokémon Snap game, and it's finally on the way - recently announced as a new Switch game, it looks frankly delightful, and a great way to relax while taking pictures of your favourite pocket monsters.

Bravely Default II

  • Release date: 2020
  • Switch exclusive: Yes
  • Publisher: Square Enix

The same team behind the Bravely series and Octopath Traveler will release a new JRPG later this year: Bravely Default II. If you love old-school turn-based skirmishes, this looks as good as they get.

Doom Eternal

  • Release date: 2020
  • Switch exclusive: No
  • Publisher: Bethesda

What do we need to say about Doom Eternal? If you know Doom, then you know what you're getting here: demon-slaying with insanely powerful weapons and brilliantly gory animations. Doom Eternal will also see you adventuring to never-before-seen worlds to kick demonic butt. Definitely not for young ones, but plenty of fun for grown-ups.

Already available for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, we're currently waiting on an exact release date for Switch.

Immortals Fenyx Rising

Immortals Fenyx Rising is an all-new game that's being crafted by the people behind Assassin's Creed Odyssey. From what we've seen so far it's set to feature some stunning aesthetics and a familiar vibe (we can't help but make comparisons to The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild). An epic journey, treacherous dungeons and tricky trials await.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

  • Release date: TBC
  • Switch exclusive: Yes
  • Publisher: Nintendo

Although we don't yet know the official name, we're happy to see that the sequel to one of the most popular games on Switch is getting a sequel. That's right The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is getting another outing. We don't know when it is coming, but it's been teased at E3 2019 as being in development, so that's fairly exciting.

Bayonetta 3

  • Release date: TBC
  • Switch exclusive: Yes
  • Publisher: Nintendo

Bayonetta 3 was announced way back in 2017. There's still no news on when it's going to be released, but fans of the series are no doubt waiting with bated breath.

Maneater - Day one edition

  • Release date: TBC

This one really whets our appetite for mayhem and destruction. Maneater puts you in the body of a shark that's set on terrorising the coast and eating everything in its path.

The Survivalists

The Survivalists is a new game set in the Escapists Universe that's coming later this year. It's pitched as an "adventure-filled, survival sandbox" where you'll be free to build, craft, explore and have fun with friends too. A procedurally generated environment, changing lands with the day and night cycles and the ability to train monkeys should make this one interesting.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Another potentially awesome Lego Star Wars game. This one will let you play through all nine Star Wars saga films in a single game. Expect the usual humour, plenty of adventures and all your favourite Star Wars characters too.
