OnePlus 7T Pro vs OnePlus 7T: What's the rumoured difference?

OnePlus announced the OnePlus 7T at an event in India on 26 September, but the OnePlus 7T Pro is still due to be announced, with an event planned for today - 10 October - in London.

There have been multiple rumours surrounding the OnePlus 7T Pro, giving us a good idea about what to expect and how it might compare to the OnePlus 7T.

This features breaks down the rumoured specifications for the OnePlus 7T Pro up against the official specifications for the OnePlus 7T to help you figure out which one might be the one for you. 

What's expected to be the same between the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro?

While the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro are expected to differ in terms of design, both devices are rumoured to offer the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus processor and 8GB of RAM so they should both deliver great performance.

The front camera resolution is also expected to be the same between the two models and they are both expected to offer a 90Hz refresh rate display. OnePlus confirmed this would be the case for the OnePlus 7T and said it would be coming to all future OnePlus devices. 

Software will also be the same between the two devices, though the 7T Pro will likely get a couple of extra features, and they are both expected to come with an in-display fingerprint sensor, as their predecessors do.

What's expected to be different between the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro?

While the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro have a number of similarities based on the rumours, there are several differences reported too - as you would expect.

Design

  • OnePlus 7T: Circular camera housing, notched display
  • OnePlus 7T Pro: Vertical camera housing, no notch 

The OnePlus 7T features a triple camera on the rear in a circular housing, while the OnePlus 7T Pro is expected to feature a similar design to the OnePlus 7 Pro with a triple rear camera in a slim vertical housing.

The OnePlus 7T also has a small waterdrop notch at the top of its display, while the OnePlus 7T Pro will have no notch interrupting its display, with a pop-up camera expected again like the OnePlus 7 Pro.

Display size and resolution

  • OnePlus 7T: 6.55-inch, 2400 x 1080, AMOLED
  • OnePlus 7T Pro: 6.65-inch, 3100 x 1440, AMOLED

The OnePlus 7T comes with a 6.55-inch AMOLED display, while the OnePlus 7T Pro is expected to sport a 6.65-inch AMOLED display.

The resolutions are expected to be different too, with the OnePlus 7T offering a 2400 x 1080 resolution, while the OnePlus 7T Pro is said to be coming with a 3100 x 1440 resolution. The OnePlus 7T offers a pixel density of 402ppi compared to the OnePlus 7T Pro's 516ppi, if the OnePlus 7T Pro's specifications are accurate.

As mentioned, both are expected to have a 90Hz refresh rate and they are also said to be HDR10+ compatible

Rear camera

  • OnePlus 7T: 48MP(main)+16MP(ultra-wide)+12MP(telephoto)
  • OnePlus 7T Pro: 48MP(main)+16MP(ultra-wide)+8MP(telephoto)

The OnePlus 7T comes with a triple rear camera and the OnePlus 7T Pro is expected to have a triple rear camera too, but the specifications are thought to differ slightly.

Based on the rumours and the confirmed specifications for the OnePlus 7T, both the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro will have a 48-megapixel main sensor with an aperture of f/1.6, as well as a 16-megapixel Ultra-Wide lens with an aperture of f/2.2 and a 117-degree field of view.

They are also both expected to have a telephoto lens, but it's this lens that's expected to differ between the standard and Pro model. The OnePlus 7T has an 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 2x zoom, while the OnePlus 7T Pro is said to have an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x zoom.

Battery capacities

  • OnePlus 7T: 3800mAh
  • OnePlus 7T Pro: 4085mAh

The OnePlus 7T comes with a 3800mAh battery, while the OnePlus 7T Pro is said to be coming with a 4085mAh battery.

The OnePlus 7T comes with the OnePlus WARP Charge 30T Fast Charging, which is claimed to be 20 per cent faster than OnePlus 7 Pro. We expect the OnePlus 7T Pro to offer the same.

Storage

  • OnePlus 7T: 128GB/256GB
  • OnePlus 7T Pro: 256GB

The OnePlus 7T comes in 128GB and 256GB models, while the OnePlus 7T Pro is claimed to only come in a 256GB.

Neither is expected to have microSD for storage expansion as OnePlus devices typically don't offer microSD.

Price

The OnePlus 7T starts around at $599 the same price as the OnePlus 7 so near the £500 mark. 

The OnePlus 7T Pro will be more expensive, hopefully staying within a similar price bracket to the OnePlus 7 Pro though, which starts at £649.

Conclusion

Based on the speculation and what we already know, the OnePlus 7T will feature a slightly less capable camera to the OnePlus 7T Pro, along with a lower resolution display and a slightly smaller battery, but is also likely to be cheaper and take a bigger leap compared to its predecessor than the OnePlus 7T Pro.
